内容摘要：Electricity perishes immediately, making production highly sensitive to power supply fluctuations. Beyond cross-regional transmission, power systems worldwide are increasingly turning to storage techniques. In this paper, we exploit the rollout of pumped-storage hydropower (PSH)—the largest form of localized power storage infrastructure—to study its impact on firm production. Using a staggered difference-in-differences design, we show that access to PSH increases production by 15.1%. Mechanism analyses indicate that PSH reduces power uncertainty and smooths within-year production volatility. The production response may reflect fundamental changes in production expectations, as further evidence shows the affected firms expand long-term investment and increase the use of permanent labor. In aggregate, localized energy solutions have meaningful implications for regional economic development.
